What each platform will and will not let you automate

This is the question underneath almost every automation search, and the answer is not the same per network. TikTok has a Content Posting API for approved apps. X has documented endpoints for posting and for attaching a subtitle file. YouTube has the Data API for uploads. Snapchat has no public API for posting snaps at all, and driving the app with a script is against its terms.

So the safe line runs through production, not identity: render, caption, describe and queue automatically, and keep account actions on official routes only. Anything promising automatic posting where the platform offers no API is doing something that costs accounts.

Choosing between n8n, Make, Zapier and Workato

Zapier has the most connectors and the gentlest start. Make bills per operation and handles branching and iteration well. n8n can be self-hosted, drops into JavaScript when a node is missing, and gets cheaper as volume grows. Workato and Tray.ai are aimed at company IT, with environments and governance, and are priced for that.

For video pipelines the deciding detail is usually how the tool waits. A render takes minutes, so the workflow has to submit a job, poll or take a callback, and continue later. Tools that bill per operation make a polling loop expensive; tools that bill per execution do not.

The parts that break, and how to build around them

Four failure modes account for most broken automations: a step that fires twice for the same record, a render that fails halfway, an API that rate-limits under load, and a credential that expires. Handle them explicitly. Make the write step idempotent, store the job id so a retry can resume, back off on 429, and keep credentials in the tool's own credential store rather than in a node parameter.

Where the video step fits
